Hey Dancers!
Sometimes, we all need a break. Even from dancing.
I’m currently on a two month walk across France and Spain on the historical pilgrimage the Camino de Santiago. I’m on the Via Podiensis route — a journey of almost 1,000 miles to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain (it’s really close to where I live now).
One of my favorite parts of these long walks is listening to Jazz music. I load my phone with tons of Jazz and put my entire library on shuffle while I walk. I jam out with my favorites, but I also get to rediscover fantastic tunes that got buried in my library.
Taking a break from time to time always helps me rediscover my passion for dance, Jazz, and connecting and collaborating with other dancers.
Video Inspiration
I’ve got a new dance obsession. You met Jean-Charles “Joyss” Zambo in my last newsletter. I’ve got another video of his dancing for you. This time, it’s a collaboration with Ron Dobrovinsky. (He’s an incredible dancer from Israel, who I’m also newly obsessed with).
This solo jazz piece is part storytelling, musicality, and comedy. It has a mix of old school solo jazz and some contemporary moves. The music, “Tidbits” by Ron Sunshine and Paul Tillotson, adds to the playful nature of the piece. Jean-Charles “Joyss” and Ron choreographed this for Dragon Swing Festival 2019 in Krakow, Poland.
They had to perform it twice in a row, because the audience loved it so much, they demanded an encore.

Song of the Month
Recognize this melody? It’s the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory song, “Pure Imagination” but Jazz style with the Boilermaker Jazz Band.
I love the gentle 130 bpm tempo. The floaty nature of the clarinet. This song makes me want to gently bounce through a social dance…then eat some chocolate.

Do you need some dance inspiration? Ya gotta wait until October.
